New Years Day In September

It seems each month has its share of holidays, and September is no slacker! We've already passed a few holidays this month, but there are still more to come! We've already flown past Labor Day (and the kids are back to school!) and Grandparent's Day. Just yesterday was Patriot Day, when we remember the events of September 11, 2001. Read below for a description of these days of import and some upcoming notable dates as well.

September 3rd  Labor Day
A national holiday that celebrates all of the hardworking Americans and their contributions both social and economic.

September 9th  Grandparents Day
Declared a National holiday by President Jimmy Carter in 1978. Marian McQuade advanced the idea for Grandparents day. Her vision was to help the elderly in nursing homes that often get forgotten about.  She thought that this would be a day to recognize the wisdom and heritage that grandparents can provide.

September 11th  Patriot Day
A day to remember the horrible events of 9/11/01. When terrorists attacked the USA, killing thousands.
Flags will be flown at half staff to honor the victims, and the heroes that risked their lives to save others. The first plane struck the World Trade Center’s North Tower in New York at 8:46am (Eastern Daylight Time). All Americans are asked to observe a moment of silence at this time.

September 17th  Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. Unlike the parties surrounding January 1 for the new year, Rosh Hashanah is more about prayer and reflection, but there are still many celebrations. The traditional foods eaten during this time is challah bread, apples with honey and tzimmes which is typically a combination of carrots, yams, cinnamon, prunes and honey.

September 22nd First Day of Autumn
It’s so sad to see summer fade away, but let’s at least enjoy Autumn as much as possible before the harsh realities of winter set in. Go pick some apples at an orchard, bake some apple pie (don’t forget to bring some to the office), and drink some warm apple cider or hot chocolate.

Poolside Party Provides Plenty Of A-Moo-zment

Last Wednesday Eagle Ridge celebrated its wonderful residents by hosting its annual Poolside Party BBQ. We were happy to see so many of our residents come down for the evening and get to know each other and have a good time. The bovine themed party this year featured beef hamburgers, beef hot dogs, and ice cream with just about every topping you could imagine! The event was a great success and we had a fun time visiting with our residents.

We took a bunch of pictures, some we'll post below, but be sure to visit our Facebook page for more photos; and while you're there give us a like!

Double Sweet! Mindy and all kinds of ice cream toppings. We had just about everything you could imagine to build your own ice cream sundae!

Taylor, one of our residents who has lived here since 2011, was the lucky winner of the drawing for the gift basket! Included was a BBQ cookbook, state fair tickets, and some great cow-themed prizes.

Cute Baby Takes Up Residence At Eagle Ridge

Back in April little baby Joshua was born to David and Kristine, residents of Eagle Ridge. Recently they decided to transfer to a two bedroom apartment and stay for another year at Eagle Ridge. We're so excited, especially because we get to see more of their cute baby around here! If you see this young family about, be sure to congratulate them on the birth of their son!

Check out a photo of the family:

Painting Crew Rises To New Heights

Have you noticed all the changes around Eagle Ridge this summer? From new landscaping to parking lot repairs and tree trimming; now the patios are being cleaned and painted!

Thanks to our staff members Peter and Rick for all their hard work, they've been painting and cleaning balconies. Thank goodness they're not afraid of heights!

You may have seen "Betsy" around Eagle Ridge lately, and she'll be at our community for a little while longer. What's Betsy? It's a 1988 boom truck that the painting crew uses to lift themselves up to the hard to reach places on the outside of our buildings. The painting crew has been working hard repainting patio decks, railings, and replacing patio boards. Be sure to give them a wave and say "High" when you see them around!
